2 Story Addition and House Remodel
The Story
After 13 years in this home, and the addition of two beautiful children, this husband and wife decided it was time to enlarge their existing space rather than move away from the neighborhood that they love. Based on the design of local architect, Philip Humphreys, we built a 1200 s.f. two-story addition at the back of the existing home. For the addition and existing home to tie together in an aesthetic and functional manner, we demolished two rooms and a roof at the back of the home.
After the addition was built, roofed, and dried in, we had an asbestos remediation company completely remove the asbestos siding, and we then removed the underlying old wood clapboard siding. With all of the home’s exterior stud walls exposed, we blew cellulose insulation from outside. We then installed new structural sheathing and used Simpson hurricane clips to tie the roof with home’s exterior walls and foundation. We sided the existing home and addition using Hardie lap siding with a 5” reveal to match the reveal of the wood siding when the house was originally built in the early 1900’s. We then demolished and rebuilt the front half of the home’s existing gable roof, and the existing kitchen and guest bath floor system. New Marsh cabinetry, engineered quartz countertops, and tile backsplashes were installed in the kitchen. The addition features cherry wood flooring, a bulky cherry newel post, two sections of cherry handrail, and cherry stair treads with an open-balustrade leading to second story.
We finished the project by doubling the size of the wrap-around porch and matched its classic exposed-rafter details of the porch ceiling. The larger porch has lent itself to enjoyable times outside with family and friends.

"The crew of guys working for Christopher is top notch and I don’t know what Christopher is giving those cats but they seem fairly loyal to the man. Christopher and his team did a great job mixing the old details and character of the house with the new construction. All I can say is this is a top-notch operation not the most expensive not the cheapest just a really well oiled machine."
